Federal University is one of the federal universities in Nigeria established by the administration of the then President Goodluck Jonathan. It is located in Lafia, the capital city of Nasarawa. Established in 2010 as one of the nine new universities in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. It was formerly known as Federal University, Lafia.

Federal University of Lafia was able to commence academic activities 2 years after its establishment, in September 2012. Like most federal universities, it is headed by a ceremonial chancellor, and a vice chancellor who is in charge of the academic and administrative activities of the university. The current vice chancellor of the university is Professor Shehu Abdulrahaman.

Nasarawa State University, Keffi

Nasarawa State University is a state-owned university located in Keffi, in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Established in 2001 under the administration of the then Governor of Nasarawa State, Governor Abdullahi Adamu, through a law passed by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, the university aims to provide an avenue for the indigenes of the state to pursue tertiary education.

Nasarawa State University has different campuses; a main campus at Keffi which is the administrative headquarters of the school; the Lafia campus; the Pyanku campus for continuing studies and IJMB; and the Gudi campus which houses the faculty of engineering. The current vice chancellor of the university is Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed.

Mewar University, Masaka, Nasarawa State

Mewar University, allegedly the first Indian university in Africa, is located in Masaka, at the border between the federal capital city of Nigeria, Abuja, and Nasarawa State. The university prides itself to be a true international university with a wide range of opportunities like international language classes, international exchange program and internships, addon lectures, and more.

The university is headed by a ceremonial chancellor, and a vice chancellor who handles the academic and administrative activities of the university. Professor Muhammad Tanko is the current vice chancellor of the university.
