Enugu State has only one federal university in the state, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. This university is a public university established and managed by the federal government.

University of Nigeria, Nsukka

University of Nigeria is the only federal university in Enugu state. It is located in Nsukka, Enugu State, in the Eastern part of Nigeria. The university was founded in 1955 by Nnamdi Azikwe and formally resumed activities on 7th of October 1960.

University of Nigeria is the first autonomous and full fledged university in Nigeria, and one of the five biggest universities in Nigeria.

University of Nigeria has three campuses in Enugu State, including Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla, and one Aba campus in Abia State. Professor Charles Arizechukwu Igwe is the current vice chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Enugu State University of Science and Technology is a state owned university located in the city of Enugu, in Enugu State, Nigeria. This state university was founded as Anambra State University of Technology by the then governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, in 1979.

Enugu State University of Science and Technology has two campuses, the Agbani Campus and the Enugu Campus ( popularly known as Urban Campus). The current vice chancellor of the university is Professor Aloysius-Michaels Nnabugwu Okolie.

Godfrey Okoye University is a private university located in Enugu, Nigeria. The university was founded by Very Reverend Father Professor Dr. Christian Anieke for the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, in 2009.

The university was granted a license by the National Universities Commission on the 3rd of November 2009. The current vice chancellor of the university is Professor Dr. Christian Anieke.

The school fees for students in Godfrey Okoye University depends on the faculty and the level of the student. It ranges from N 231,000 to N 630,000.

Coal City University is allegedly a not-for-profit private university located in Enugu in Nigeria. It was established in 2016. The idea for the establishment of the university was conceived by Rev. Fr. Prof. Stan Ani.

Coal City University claims to offer academic programs that are quality assured in Nigeria and by overseas external examiners. The current vice chancellor of the university is Professor Afam Icha-Ituma.

The total fees expected to be paid by students who gained admission through JAMB is about N 467,950 while direct entry students are expected to pay N 472,950. These fees include the acceptance fee, application fee, school fees, service charge, and other sundry fee.

Coal City University has 3 faculties and 10 departments. The faculties include:

However, before applying for admission into any of them we should consider our chances. As a rule, public universities are quite competitive when it comes to admission. They are affordable, especially the federal ones, compared to their counterparts, therefore usually have an influx of applicants.
