There are three(3) Universities in Borno State, of which two(2) universities are owned by the Federal Government while one(1) University is a State-owned University.

Borno State is a state in the North-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, lined by Yobe toward the west, Gombe toward the southwest, and Adamawa toward the south while its eastern boundary frames part of the public line with Cameroon, its northern boundary shapes part of the public boundary with Niger, and its northeastern boundary shapes the public boundary with Chad, being all the main Nigerian state to border three foreign nations.

The University of Maiduguri was established in 1975 as one of the second-generation Universities, which shaped a piece of the projects of the Third National Development plan (1975-80) by the then Federal Military Government. The University of Maiduguri is situated in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, in the North-Eastern corner of Nigeria. The Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), is a globally recognized Nigerian University and is situated in Borno State. It is a research-based higher institution of learning for Technology and innovation for the Nigerian Army. It was founded in 2018.

Nigerian Army University Biu was founded by the Federal Government of Nigeria to be a focal point of advancement and mechanical improvement for the Nigerian defense sector and the country to meet the constantly changing and fast improvement in the elements of present-day warfare. The University is overseen by the Nigerian Army which has 75% regular citizens and 25% military and paramilitary. It is Africa’s First Green University and the first Nigerian Army University.
